Obtaining Licences
Bar Licence (Temporary Event Notice)
A TEN must be applied for from Purbeck District Council if we wish to sell alcohol at an event.
The licensing department at Worgret House are always really helpful if you have any queries.
There is some explanatory information from Purbeck District Council below, but it basically goes like this:
- Licence applications need to be made at least ten days before the event.
- In any calendar year, one individual may make up to five applications.
- We can apply for up to 12 TENs per calendar year at the same venue.
- Print out and fill in this TEN application form (pdf format). (Past copies are kept in the PTA folder for reference.)
- Send (or take) two copies, with the £21.00 fee, to the Licensing Office at Westport House, Worgret Road, Wareham, Dorset, BH20 4PP.
- At the same time, send one copy to the Dorset Police Licensing Office at the address below (no further payment necessary).
- The licence will be sent to the correspondence address you indicate on the form.
- The licence must be displayed at the bar during the event.
- It would be useful to file our copy of the application form after the event so that we can track how many we have applied for in the calendar year.
From PDC (February 2008):
"Limitations:
- no more than 499 persons, including staff and performers, may be present at the event at any one time;
- the same premises cannot be used on more than 12 occasions in a calendar year;
- there must be 24 hours between each event;
- a TEN can last for up to 96 hours, but the total of actual days over the year must not exceed 15 days;
- an individual must apply for a TEN;
- if the applicant holds a Personal Licence he/she is limited to 50 notices;
- if the applicant does not hold a Personal Licence, he/she is limited to 5 notices per year.
If the TEN involves the sale of alcohol, the person giving the notice will be responsible
for the sale or supply of the alcohol.
The Police may object to the TEN on the grounds of crime and disorder, but the objection
must be lodged with the Licensing Authority within 48 hours of receipt of the notice.
Application forms and information about TENs are available here on the
PDC website. You must
complete 3 sets of forms, although if more convenient photocopies of a completed form are
quite acceptable if preferred.
Two completed sets of application forms must then be returned to the Licensing Office,
Purbeck District Council, at the address shown below, to arrive at least 10 working
days prior to the event. The application must be accompanied by the fee of £21.00
preferably by way of a cheque.
On the same day the remaining completed application form must be forwarded to Mrs
Caroline Wateridge, Licensing Officer, Dorset County Command Centre, Ferndown Police Station,
Ameysford Road, Ferndown, Dorset, BH22 9HQ. Tel: 01202 226083 Fax: 01202 226175
If Dorset Police make no representation to the Council in respect of your application,
one copy will be endorsed and returned to you as confirmation that proper notice of the
event has been given."
